The proliferation of images in contemporary life makes Living Pictures: Photography in Southeast Asia so relevant for audiences across the region.  The exhibition explores the power of the photograph from its colonial origins in Southeast Asia to its present ubiquity in the age of social media. It acknowledges the ability of photography to reflect reality but also its profound impact on the way we view the world and ourselves.

The Monsoon Southeast Asia Collection is proud to have loaned two works by Istanbul-based Filipino artist Wawi Navarozza to this important and wide-ranging exhibition at the National Gallery of Singapore, Start Here | A Lesson on Looking (Self-portrait with Mandarins), 2019 and May in Manila / Hot Summer (After Balthus, Self-Portrait), 2019. The show ran from 2 December 2022 to 20 August 2023 in Singapore.
