Victor Balanon (Philippines, b. 1972) is a self-taught artist who works primarily in video and animation.  While at the University of the East, he shifted his initial interest in Dental Medicine to pursue a degree in Fine Arts, Major in Advertising. He also studied film and animation at the Mowelfund Film Institute in Manila. Prior to becoming an artist, he worked as an illustrator, creating storyboards, album covers and posters for film, independent comics and alternative music labels and later as an animator for a major Japanese animation company. He has participated in various artist-run initiatives, working with the artist collective, Surrounded By Water, in the 1990s, and more recently, with the moving-image initiative, Lost Frames. His works have been exhibited in various shows locally and internationally, including the Jakarta Biennale, the Manila Biennale, and exhibitions at the Jewish Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, the University of the Philippines’ Vargas Museum, Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, and the Singapore Art Museum.
