Uttaporn Nimmalaikaew is a Thai visual artist and an art educator at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology and Master of Fine Arts from Silpakorn University in Thailand. He is known for three-dimensional painting over layers of carefully draped thread and netting. A devout Buddhist, Nimmalaikaew’s distinct style is heavily informed by Buddhist philosophy as well as his own personal histories and narratives. In 2006, He was awarded the The Sovereign Asian Art Prize 2006 in Hong Kong and the First Prize in the National Exhibition of Art 2011 in Bangkok, Thailand. He was invited to join the exhibition Ghosts and Hells in Asian Art 2017 at Quai Branly Museum, Paris and in July 2019, he presented his solo exhibition, ตาฝาด: Reality as it isn’t at Subhashok The Arts Centre, Bangkok. He currently lives and works in Bangkok, Thailand.
