In Head and Power 2, (2018),  Svay Sareth reflects on notions of power, war, and collective identity. Recreating a Khmer sculpture in the camouflage fabric of the Cambodian military, Svay alludes to the glories of the country’s ancient past, the horrors of the Khmer Rouge years, and the collective trauma and threats of violence that continue to haunt the present.  Through his use of materials, found objects, and performative gestures symbolic of war and violence, Svay’s practice also serves a cathartic purpose that underlies his political and social critique.
