Svay Sareth
Svay Sareth began making art as a young teenager in a refugee camp, near the Thai-Cambodian border. Svay then obtained a BA Fine Art from the L'école Régional Supérieur des Beaux-Arts de Caen, France in 2007 and an MFA / Diplôme National Supérieur d'Etude des Arts Plastiques, avec felicitations, in 2009. He is the co-founder of Phare Ponlue Selepak, a non-governmental organization and art school in Battambang. Svay has widely exhibited across Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, including solo shows at SA SA BASSAC, Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 2012 and 2015 as well as group exhibitions at the John Young Museum of Art, University of Hawaii, Manoa in 2016; 10 Chancery Lane Gallery, Hong Kong in 2015; Singapore Art Museum, Singapore and the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, Australia in 2015; and 4th Singapore Biennale in 2014. In 2013, he participated in a residency at the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council on Governors Island and in 2016, he won the Prudential Eye Award Best Emerging Artist Using Sculpture and Overall Best Emerging Artist awards. His works are in the collections of the Singapore Art Museum and National Gallery of Victoria. He lives and works in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
