Blackboard (Indonesia-Thailand-Singapore), (2020) focuses on the shared political history of these three countries during the turbulent years of 1965-1966. Against the backdrop of opposing ideologies during the Cold War, economic difficulties in the region, and growing social unrest, the three nations forged their own paths, responding to internal and external challenges. Kunavichayanont presents layered histories on a blackboard, blurring and overlapping drawn images of maps, armed soldiers, famous politicians, victims of violence, national insignias, and various texts. The work reminds us that classrooms are not meant to be spaces of passive absorption but of empowerment and participation.
