Object Sitter

In Object Sitter, (2018), Raena Abella photographed selected pieces from artist/curator Nilo Ilarde's collection of art objects by various artists. Presented in monochrome against a dark background, the unique features, textures, and shapes of each object become apparent. Photographed in similar scale and arranged in a grid, each object then becomes part of a larger set that is more than the sum of its parts. Object Sitter quietly suggests that collecting art might also be viewed as an artistic practice, one that creates meaning through the intentional selection and arrangement of artworks.
