Pope Bacay (b. 1994) is a visual artist who articulates understandings of place in his oil and acrylic paintings of architectural structures and landscape views. His fascination for places is rooted in his connection to his childhood home in Oriental Mindoro, Philippines.

Bacay’s paintings represent the quest for belonging, grounding reality in architectural details or abstracted representations of nature. These are records of places the artist has seen, passed through or lived in, but can also represent the memories and emotions associated with a place. In his landscapes and architectural paintings, the artist seeks to find spaces where the self can belong, albeit temporarily.

Bacay graduated cum laude in Studio Arts from the College of Fine Arts, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City. He lives and works in Metro Manila, Philippines.
