Poklong Anading
Poklong Anading (Philippines, b. 1975) is a contemporary artist based in the Philippines. His works span across installation, photography, drawing, and painting. His projects involve a discourse of an investigative and descriptive character. Often based on collective research which engages both subject and audience, Anading’s conceptual approach seeks to distill the essential from organic dissimilarities within social occurences and social systems.
Poklong Anading graduated from the University of the Philippines in 1999. He has participated in several important international exhibitions including the Gwangju Biennale 2002 and 2012 in Korea; the 2009 Jakarta Biennale in Indonesia; 5th Asian Art Biennale in Taiwan; Roppongi Art Night 2015 in Tokyo, Japan; and the Architecture Biennale 2016 in Venice, Italy. His works have been exhibited in the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, USA; Zentrum fur Kunst und Medientechnologie Karlsruhe in Germany; the Yokahama Museum of Art in Japan; the Singapore Art Museum; the Asia Society Museum in New York, USA; and the Minsheng Art Museum in Shanghai, China. He won top prize for Experimental Video in 2000 at the 12 Gawad CCP Awards and was a recipient of the 2006 Thirteen Artists Award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines which recognises exemplary artists in the field of contemporary visual art. His work is in the permanent collection of Guggenheim Foundation New York, The Singapore Art Museum, and several private collections across the world. He lives and works in the Philippines.
