Pinaree Sanpitak’s Dream Escapes II, (2020) reflects the artist’s ongoing fascination with the Breast Stupa, a symbol of femininity, fertility and sensuality, and the Offering Bowl, a vessel whose shape recalls an upturned breast, that is rooted in Buddhist spirituality and community spirit. Extending from the series of textured paintings that Sanpitak exhibited in the Venice Biennale in 2022, Dream Escapes II sees her breast/vessel leitmotif expressed in a monochrome palette that incorporates various materials like acrylic, graphite pencil, paper, and fabric on canvas. The painting correlates her own body’s personal experiences as a woman and a mother, with the notion of humility and shared humanity evoked by the offering vessels in Thai culture.
