Mike Adrao
Mike Adrao (Philippines, b. 1973) is a contemporary artist from the Philippines. Engaging with the potential and possibilities of drawing, he traces the boundaries of the mythical, imagined, and the real in his graphite forms. The baroque ornateness of his images revel in light and shadow, taking inspiration such diverse sources as human and animal anatomies, surrealism, the grotesque portraits of Arcimboldo, and antique and classical furniture.
He holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Philippines and has participated in international exhibitions in Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia. His solo show, Decoy, Decay, ran at Tin-aw Art Gallery in Manila in 2012. He also presented at the Southeast Asia Platform at Art Stage Singapore (2014) and the Karen H. Montinola Selection at Art Fair Philippines (2015). He was part of the exhibition “Complicated” at the Lopez Museum in Manila, Philippines, and Library in 2015 and “Paper Trails: Southeast Asian Works on Paper” at Sangkring Art Space, Jogjakarta, Indonesia.
