Kray Chen (Singapore, b. 1987) is a visual artist whose practice largely deals with the lived experience and body politics, reflecting on the body and the self within an economic system where fissures and ruptures of the psyche arise from the parallel quests to progress and to conserve. Chen completed his MA in Fine Arts from LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore (in partnership with Goldsmith’s College of Art) and has exhibited widely in Singapore, United States, Spain, and France. His works were included in the Singapore Biennale in 2019 and the inaugural Bangkok Art Biennale in 2018. Chen was an artist-in-residence at the NTU-CCA residency in Singapore in 2016, the FRAC Des Pays De La Loire residency in Nantes, France in 2015 and the Hangar residency in Barcelona, Spain in 2014. In 2017, he was conferred the Young Artist Award by the National Arts Council, in recognition of young art practitioners, aged 35 years and below, whose artistic achievements and commitment have distinguished them among their peers.
