Jose Tence Ruiz
Jose Tence Ruiz is a contemporary artist from the Philippines whose work includes paintings, sculpture, installation, performance, media presentations, book illustration, publication design and set design. He also previously worked as a political cartoonist for major newspapers in the Philippines and Singapore. Ruiz’s practice is strongly engaged in the socio-political landscape of his homeland. He holds a Fine Arts degree from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines and has exhibited in various local and international exhibitions, including the Cagnes-Sur-Mer Exhibition in France in 1981; The 2nd Asia-Pacific Triennial for Contemporary Art in Brisbane, Australia in 1996; The Gwangju Biennial in Korea in 1999; The Havana Biennial in Cuba in 2000; Telah Terbit: Asean Art of the 70s, Singpore Art Museum in 2006; Thrice Upon A Time, (A Century of Story in the Art of the Philippines), Singapore Art Museum in 2009, and the 56th Biennal de Venezia in 2015. He lives and works in Manila.
