Left Wing II

Created during their residency at STPI, Left Wing II, (2017) expands on Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan's Left Wing Project with the blacksmith communities of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. For their residency, the artists were interested in re-imagining their past projects with new materials and production processes.  In this work, an image of a sickle was screen printed onto clear acetate and carefully layered within a light box, giving the resulting wing an ephemeral, almost ghostly, quality. In working with various communities in the creation and production of their artworks, including the team of print makers at STPI, the artists constantly engage with the notions of authorship and collaboration in their artistic practice.
