The work can be seen as a portal into other dimensions or other ways of seeing. Over a period of 3 years, the work developed an almost opaque quality, as each layer overlapped another, hiding the paintings that had come before. This mode of painting corresponds to a new direction for Chong in terms of scale and process and reflects a different engagement with the idea of painting where the pace of art making corresponds more closely to his process of writing fiction. In this painting, the thick black lines suggest the flow of text underneath, or perhaps is the result of erasing what was written and starting anew.
