In a departure from her usual painting practice, Geraldine Javier explores the medium of photography as a vehicle to translate her artistic vision in STRIP 2011: Painters as Photographers at Silverlens. Together with other lauded female painters, Patricia Eustachio, Yasmin Sison Ching, and Nona Garcia, Geraldine welcomed the opportunity to work with a new medium that required a change in approach and execution compared to painting. The uncanny atmosphere that characterised her early paintings are retained in these photographic tableaus, Alice and Lucinda, (2011), Overkill, (2011) and Sun and Moon, (2011) by combining her subjects with the visual texture of cloth patterns, colourful backdrops, tatting lace and quilted fabrics.
