Geraldine Javier
Geraldine Javier trained as a nurse before pursuing a second degree in Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines in 1997. From 1999 to 2003, she was a member of the Surrounded By Water collective. In her artistic practice, Javier engages with complex social, political, historical contexts the Philippines, drawing influences from global culture and mass media. Since moving from Manila to Batangas, her work has increasingly dealt man’s relationship with the natural environment and has taken on a social dimension through its engagement with the women in her local community. She has participated in various local and international exhibitions including the Havana Biennale, Havana, Cuba in 2019, at Arario gallery Shanghai, China in 2017, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia in 2017, Ormond Hall, Melbourne, Australia in 2012, and Prague Biennale, Prague, Czech Republic in 2009. She was awarded the Thirteen Artists Award at the Cultural Centre of the Philippines in 2003. Her work is included in the collections of the National Center for Culture and Arts, Philippines; Central Bank of the Philippines; Las Casas De Filipinas De Acuzar, Philippines; Singapore Art Museum; and Arario Museum, Korea.
