Gabriel Barredo (Philippines, 1957-2020) was a contemporary artist who pioneered kinetic sculpture in the Philippines. Barredo created works that combined found objects, kinetic sculptures, electronic components, metals, often referencing pop culture, religion, surrealism, and science. Following his landmark exhibition, Opera, in 2015, the artist collaborated with choreographer Redha Benteifour, composer Malek Lopez, writer Yvette Tan, among others, to stage an original dance production by Ballet Philippines at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, based on the atmospheric, laboratory-like installation. Barredo studied sculpture and advertising at the University of Santo Tomas. He exhibited at the Havana Biennale in 1985 and the São Paulo Biennial in 1994 and participated in various international exhibitions at the Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei; the National Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur; and the Soka Art Center, Beijing. In a career that spanned four decades, he was recognized at the Art Association of the Philippines Annual Competition for Painting, the Metropolitan Bank Annual Art Competition, the Globe Telecommunications Competition, and received the Diwa ng Sining Art Award and the Araw ng Maynila Award.

His works are held in many important collections globally.
