Dinh Q. Lê was born in Vietnam and immigrated to the US at the age of ten. Le is best known for his photo-weavings which examine and unearth history to explore universal themes of loss and redemption. Through his work, he merges Eastern and Western cultures, as well as personal and fictional realities. Lê received his BA in Art Studio at UC Santa Barbara in 1989 and his MFA in Photography and Related Media at The School of Visual Arts in New York City in 1992. Lê has been invited to exhibit at the 50th Venice Biennale, as well as dOCUMENTA (13) at Kassel, Germany. In 2012 he exhibited a major solo project at the Museum of Modern of Art, New York. Lê has participated in numerous international exhibitions, recent solo exhibitions include Elizabeth Leach Gallery, Portland, Oregon, USA in 2021 and 2020; Tang Contemporary Art, Bangkok in 2019; Project Fulfill art Space, Taipei in 2018; San Jose Museum of Art, California, USA in 2018; Singapore Tyler Print Institute in 2018; Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, Netherlands in 2017; and Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, UK in 2016. He was awarded the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Residency in 2013 and Visual Art Laureate, Prince Claus Fund in 2010. His works are in the collections of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia; Asia Society, New York, USA, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, USA; The Israel Museum, Israel; the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, Japan; and The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco USA, among others. Dinh Q. Lê works and lives in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam.
